Sound worked right out of the box using the i810_audio and ac97_codec modules.

Multimedia keys

Also the i8kutils are able to handle the multimedia keys of dell laptops, see here. What you still have to do is to create the file .Xmodmap in your home directory with the following content :

    keycode 160 = F31 # volume mute
    keycode 174 = F32 # volume down
    keycode 176 = F33 # volume up

Now you can configure your favorite desktop application to act accordingly. Here I simply defined shortcuts for the channel Volume of the kmix applet in the kde taskbar.
