In this article some information about the design and construction of a sterling engine is given. Technical drawings are available.
In 1997 I worked for 6 weeks in an engineering company as trainee. In the last two weeks with nothing very important to be done I had the opportunity to work my own projects using the equipment and machinery available.
Apart from the construction my bike lights a sterling engine was built. A sterling engine is an engine powered by heat. The functional prinziple is the direct opposite of compressors used in refrigerators. For further information visit the website of the sterling engine society.
Detailed technical drawings of the engine built are available as Autocad file.
All in all the engine works but only with an excessize ammount of heat. Experience has shown that the cold water reservoir used to cool the air in the downcycle is to small; the efficiency of the engine is diminished.
